- Above freezing temperatures over the next week
- Upwards of 15 mm of rain; melting snowpack
- Elevated water levels, minor flooding
A low pressure system tracking south of the Great Lakes is forecast to bring variable amounts of mixed precipitation this evening and into tomorrow morning. Communities within the upper portion of the watershed can anticipate 1-3 mm of rain, with 10-15 mm of rain forecast in the lower portion of the watershed near Wallaceburg. Overnight snow accumulation is anticipated to be less than 5 cm.
Water levels across the watershed remain elevated and the ground generally saturated from recent freezing rain and snowmelt events over the past few weeks. While below freezing overnight temperatures will help slow the loss of the snowpack, additional rain to the system is anticipated to expedite snowmelt and may further elevate water levels into natural floodplain areas, parks and fields. Increased runoff and ponding are possible.
Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Any remaining ice cover on waterbodies will be unstable and should be avoided. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.
Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
