- 20 – 45 mm of rain next 24 hours
- Saturated soils, increased runoff
- Elevated water levels, potential for minor flooding
A Colorado low moving into Ontario is expected to bring sustained rainfall over the next 24 hours. Total accumulations for this event are forecast between 20 mm and 45 mm, with upwards of 35 mm falling today and a further 10 mm on Saturday. Rainfall amounts may vary depending on location.
Rainfall may be intense at times; high amounts of rainfall in a short period of time can lead to increased runoff and flash flooding, particularly in urban areas. Soils are anticipated to become saturated from the rain and could contribute to ponding, increased runoff into watercourses, and possible increased erosion and seepage issues. Rising water levels may spill into natural floodplain areas, parks and fields.
Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.
Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
