- Rainfall amounts to 20 to 35 mm of rain
- Local snowfall amounts up to 5 cm
- Saturated soils; increased runoff and ponding possible
- Strong southwesterly winds coming Wednesday
Environment Canada is tracking a Texas low-pressure system that is making its way through Southern Ontario. Weather forecasts are calling for 20 to 35 mm of rain, along with snow, for the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority watershed. Precipitation, lack of snow cover, and wet ground conditions may result in higher-than-normal water levels/flows as well as ponding in low-lying areas.
The system is forecasted to bring strong southwesterly winds on Wednesday, wind gusts are expected to reach 50-60 km/h throughout the region, with some areas along Lake Huron reaching 70 km/h.
Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks, and cold, swift-moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.
Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
This message will remain in effect until Monday, January 15, 2024, unless otherwise updated.
