The St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation presented its 2012 President’s Award to the Sarnia Lambton Environmental Association at its meeting on Thursday. “I am very pleased today to be able to present such an award to an incredibly deserving organization,” Duncan Skinner, President of the Foundation said. The Sarnia Lambton Environmental Association began its support of the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority’s Education Program in 1996. “For the last 16 years, they have been providing funds to help us reach into the classroom bringing a message of conservation to over 60,000 students”, Skinner said”. Over that time more than $400,000 has been donated to support two in-class programs.
The first program deals with aquatic invertebrates and how they are used to measure river health. “It is quite the program – the students actually poke and prod through sediments collected from the St. Clair River. They become scientists,” Skinner said. The second program looks at how groundwater is used and the science of groundwater movement using an interactive groundwater model.
“Neither of these programs would be possible without the generous support of the Sarnia Lambton Environmental Association. They are our longest standing and largest donor to Conservation Education,” Skinner said.
The St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation is an organization committed to raising funds to support the work of the Conservation Authority.
