March 16, 2020 – The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) has always looked out for the best interest of our watershed communities and has been following the COVID-19 pandemic closely. Based on local, provincial and national health organizations recommendations to suspend any mass gathering above 250, and after careful discussion and consideration, the SCRCA has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Maple Syrup Festival scheduled for March 21st and 22nd, 2020.
In addition, the SCRCA will indefinitely implement the following practices and procedures to protect the health and safety of our staff, visitors and guests:
- Effective immediately, all St. Clair Region Conservation Authority facilities will be closed to the public indefinitely. Authority staff will be reporting to work during this time and may be available by appointment. Members of the public are asked to communicate with Authority employees by telephone or email;
- SCRCA staff will not attend off-site meetings and all meetings scheduled at SCRCA facilities are cancelled until further notice, including the St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation Annual General Meeting. Staff are available to participate through other means including teleconference and webinar;
- Hand sanitizers will be available and more frequent sanitization will be conducted throughout the Administration Office and other sites owned and operated by the SCRCA and Foundation.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause however the health and safety of our staff and communities is of paramount importance.
Lastly, the Authority wants to ensure our communities and member municipalities that flood forecasting and warning operations will not be compromised during this time. As we enter the spring freshet, SCRCA staff will continue to monitor watershed conditions and issue bulletins as required.
