- Continued ice jam on St. Clair River
- Northerly wind gusts, elevated water levels
- Freezing Spray Warning for Lake Huron
- Potential for shoreline erosion, flooding
North-northeasterly winds are forecasted for the coming 48 hours, gusting around 40 km/h throughout today, building to 60 km/h this evening and maintaining between 50-60 km/h overnight into tomorrow afternoon where winds are predicted to subside slightly to 40 km/h, continuing until overnight Wednesday. Winds from this direction will promote the flow of water into the St. Clair River, resulting in elevated water levels. At the moment the ice bridge in Lake Huron is withholding the movement if ice into the river, however should the bridge separate, ice flow into the river can exacerbate water levels and further build the ice jam. Residents along the St. Clair River may experience erosion and/or flooding as a result of impacts from the wind and ice jam.
A freezing spray warning is in effect for Southern Lake Huron beginning this evening and continuing into Tuesday afternoon.
Residents are reminded to avoid shorelines, watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous ice conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.
Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
This message will remain in effect until Wednesday, February 17, 2021, unless otherwise updated.
