- Ice jam on St. Clair River
- Elevated water levels
- Potential for shoreline erosion, flooding
Current northerly winds are promoting the flow of thin ice from Lake Huron into the St. Clair River and are elevating water levels. While much of this thin is deteriorating, thicker ice has the potential to add to the existing ice jam and exacerbate conditions. Winds over the coming days are anticipated to shift between northerly and easterly directions. Residents along the St. Clair River may experience erosion and/or flooding as a result of impacts from the wind and ice jam.
Residents are reminded to avoid shorelines, watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous ice conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The Conservation Authority continues to monitor watershed conditions and will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise.
Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
