Highlights:
- Rainfall over the last 48 hours between 40 and 60 mm
- Water levels remain elevated
- Fast flowing water and slippery stream banks
- Potential road closures
The St. Clair Region received variable amounts of precipitation across the watershed. Over the last 48 hours, precipitation totals range from 40 to 60 mm. This has resulted in elevated water levels across the watershed. Soils already saturated from the rain could contribute to ponding, increased runoff into watercourses, and possible increased erosion and seepage issues. Localized flooding will continue to expand into low lying areas, mostly agricultural floodplain and parkland areas.
Roads impacted by highwater levels include:
- Waterworks Road between Moore Line and Courtright Line
- Pretty Road between McCallum Line and Stanley Line
The forecast for this week no longer anticipates significant rainfall, however forecasts are subject to change and staff will continue to monitor conditions. River banks are expected to be slippery, with possible minor erosion. Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The Conservation Authority will issue advisories to municipalities and media should flood issues arise. Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should monitor local conditions closely.
This message will remain in effect until Wednesday, August 21, 2019 unless otherwise updated.
