The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) is gearing up for another camping season during the COVID-19 pandemic. Seasonal campers (those with a full-season contract) will be permitted access to the A.W. Campbell, Lorne C. Henderson, and Warwick Conservation Areas beginning May 1st.
“Due to the current Stay-at-Home order issued by the Ontario Government on April 8th, our seasonal campers are required to either visit their site for no more than 24 hours for an essential purpose, or for a minimum of 14 consecutive days,” said Greg Wilcox, Manager of Conservation Areas, “At this time transient camping is not permitted.”
Full refunds will be issued automatically for transient camping reservations impacted by restrictions, however, anyone who would like to cancel or change their reservations due to concerns about COVID-19 may do so by contacting the campgrounds directly. The SCRCA has once again reduced the number of transient campsites available in 2021 to promote physical distancing.
During the off-season, SCRCA staff, in consultation with Lambton Public Health and the Middlesex-London Health Unit, developed campground and pool guidance documents that outline restrictions and closures based on the Ontario COVID-19 Response Framework. “We hope these documents will help lessen confusion and provide more clarity regarding the activities and facilities that will be allowed under each colour zone,” explained Wilcox.
Pools at each campground will be open during the 2021 season, with restrictions. Pool closures are required under the Grey-Lockdown colour zone and when a Stay-at-Home order is in effect.
“We continue to appreciate the patience and understanding of our camping community,’ said Wilcox, “With everyone’s cooperation, we will be able to remain open for another safe and enjoyable camping season.”
Full details on the SCRCA’s COVID-19 camping and pool operations framework are available on the A.W. Campbell, Lorne C. Henderson, and Warwick Conservation Area webpages accessed at https://www.scrca.on.ca/conservation-lands/.
